Snapshot Update #5 on Hurricane Milton

Hurricane Milton has passed over Florida and fortunately, the impacts to Broward County were limited. South Florida remains under a Wind Warning until 4PM today, but gusts are occurring at lower speeds and with less frequency than originally anticipated.

Damage Assessment

Agency staff continues to assess areas of the community as part of the Rapid Impact Damage Assessment process. “Vac” trucks and sweepers have been deployed to clear small debris in various locations on County roadways including in the Broward Municipal Services District (BMSD). There are no flooding concerns at this time. There is no damage reported to traffic signals.

Crews and contractors are taking measures to reopen all job sites. The Convention Center Expansion & Headquarters Hotel project site has been inspected and there are no apparent damages. Facilities Management Division is performing safety checks on major facilities and there are no reports of damage at this time.

All three of the County’s drawbridges have reopened (SW 4th Avenue/7th Avenue, SE 3rd Avenue and Andrews Avenue).

County Government Operations

Broward County Government is closed today (including all parks and libraries) with the following exceptions.

• The Broward Emergency Operations Center is operating at Level 3 (Monitoring) to finalize assessments and coordinate mutual aid efforts.

• Port Everglades, Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) and North Perry Airport are fully operational. Port Pilots completed channel and berth surveys this morning to clear the Port for waterside operations. There have been approximately 50 flight cancellations at FLL this morning. Travelersusing Broward’s airport or seaport are urged to contact their airline and/or cruise line for the latest operating updates.

• Broward County Transit (BCT) is fully operational with minor service adjustments. Route 6 northbound has a detour and Routes 9 and 12 have a detour in both directions that will remain until the colleges the routes run through reopen. The Community Shuttle services (operated in partnership with cities) are suspended on Thursday in these 11 municipalities: Coconut Creek, Dania Beach, Davie, Deerfield Beach, Hallandale Beach, Hillsboro Beach, Lauderhill, Lauderdale Lakes, Lighthouse Point, Pembroke Pines and Tamarac. The Hollywood Community Shuttle, previously suspended, resumed service today.

• Mosquito Control staff are checking areas throughout the County for potential breeding sites and treating mosquito larvae.

• Regular solid waste and recycling collection services in the BMSD resumed today. The Broward County Landfill will reopen on Friday.

• The 311 Call Center is open today but call volume is low and includes many calls related to normal County operations.

Normal County operations will resume at 6AM Friday, unless a specific facility has incurred damage identified as a result of the damage assessment process.

Mutual Aid

County leadership continues to coordinate with our Broward County Office of Emergency Management, County agencies, Broward mu nicipalities, Broward County Public Schools, neighboring jurisdictions and others as necessary, to respond to any impacts. Broward County Emergency Management and County Administration have been engaged in mutual aid conversations with affected counties and expect requests for mutual aid to assist where needed.

Related Announcements
We are advised that Broward County Public Schools and The 17th Judicial Circuit Court are closed Thursday and will reopen on Friday. The Property Appraiser’s Office, Supervisor of Elections Offices and ballot boxes are closed Thursday and will reopen on Friday for normal business hours.
